Practical guidance

When to use Crop image

Best for

Removing unwanted edges or extracting a rectangular part of an image using pixel coordinates.

What you get

A PNG containing the selected region, starting at the X and Y coordinates you enter.

Useful tip

X is measured from the left edge and Y from the top. Keep both coordinates inside the source image.

Example: crop the centre of a landscape photo

For a 1600 × 900 image, a centred 900 × 900 square starts 350 pixels from the left and 0 pixels from the top. Enter these coordinates with a width and height of 900. If the requested region extends beyond an edge, the available image area limits the crop.

Source: 1600 × 900
X: 350
Y: 0
Width: 900
Height: 900

Frequently asked questions

What do the X and Y values mean?+

They identify the upper-left corner of the crop in pixels. X = 0 and Y = 0 start at the upper-left corner of the original.

Does cropping resize the selected area?+

No. The crop retains the selected pixels at their original scale. Use Image Resizer afterwards to change dimensions.

Does my file leave my device?+

No. This tool processes your file inside your browser and does not send its contents, name or metadata to Filemivo.

Is Crop image free?+

Yes. It is free to use and has no artificial file-size limit. Your browser and device memory determine the practical limit.
