Best for
Reducing the size of photographs for sharing or publishing when JPG output is suitable.
Private browser tool
Compress JPG, PNG and WebP images in your browser. Adjust quality, compare file sizes and download JPG output privately, with no upload or account.
Next step
Simple by design
Add JPG, PNG or WebP images.
Set quality and select Compress image to create JPG output.
Compare file sizes and previews, then download acceptable results.
Practical guidance
Reducing the size of photographs for sharing or publishing when JPG output is suitable.
The main Compress image action exports JPG at the current quality setting and keeps the original dimensions. Transparent areas become white.
Resize oversized images first. Recompressing an already optimized file may make it larger, so compare the actual output before keeping it.
A 4000 × 3000 photo contains 12 million pixels. A 1200 × 900 version contains 1.08 million pixels. That is 91% fewer pixels, not a guaranteed 91% reduction in file size. Resize for the intended display, then adjust quality.
Check the source and output sizes in the workspace. Inspect fine detail and gradients in the downloaded result at full size. The smallest file is only useful if it still looks acceptable where you intend to use it.
Good to know
There is no target-size control. Adjust quality, check the resulting size and try again if needed. Resize the image first when reducing quality alone is not enough.
The main compression action creates JPG output, including for PNG input. Transparent pixels become white. Keep the original PNG if transparency is required.
The main compression action keeps the original dimensions. Use Image Resizer to change the number of pixels before compression.
The source may already be efficiently compressed, or it may contain graphics that encode better in another format. Compression is not guaranteed to reduce every file. Compare output sizes and keep the smaller acceptable version.
No. This tool processes your file inside your browser and does not send its contents, name or metadata to Filemivo.
Yes. It is free to use and has no artificial file-size limit. Your browser and device memory determine the practical limit.
